Carnatic Music

I had a chance to learn Carnatic Music in University. It was taught to us by a Tamil lecturer named Mr.Aruran. Carnatic Music is one of the Oldest Music in the world.It is originated from India. The music consists of Ragas and Talas.  Carnatic Music is broken into Compositions for learning purposes.In India  Various festivals and celebrations include Carnatic Music Performances till this days. The Music was popularly practiced in the states of : Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka. The music consists of 4 elements: Sruthi, Swara, Raga and Tala. The person who sings during a Carnatic Music Performance is called vocalist. Carnatic Music when performed as singing can be accompanied by instruments namely Violin, Mridhangam, Tambura, Veena and so on. Carnatic Music is one of the major performances in major cultural events and festivals of our country.Generally Carnatic music is sung as compositions.The compositions are called KIRTI (...

My university experiences

I am an undergraduate of University of Visual and Performing Arts. My university experiences thus far have been amazing. I have learned and experienced so many new things in such a short period of time, and it has gone by so fast. I am still discovering all the opportunities that university offers me. UVPA is a very welcoming place, and from the first day, I felt at home here. I have made many new friends from many different backgrounds.  My classes are great and I enjoy every one of them, especially North Indian Vocal.   Carnatic Vocal class is also interesting because it is a new subject for me. That is probably the best part of university. It introduces so many new concepts that changes our view of  Sri Lankan music industry. I am also learning Hindi, which I greatly enjoy.
